29 March Opening Day For The Tallest Hotel In The World

In August last year, we had written about luxury hotel chain Ritz-Carlton’s return to Hong Kong. Back then, the Ritz-Carlton had announced that its Hong Kong hotel would be the tallest in the world. Their plans will be reaching fruition next Tuesday, as the hotel finally opens its doors. Located within Hong Kong’s tallest building, the 1,588-foot and 118-storey International Commerce Centre in West Kowloon, the luxury hotel will be spread over the upper 16 floors of the building.

The hotel’s staff is currently fully focused on the opening day, 29 March. If you happened to enter the hotel prior to the big day, you would spot a flurry of activities – from last-minute construction to training for the opening. The world’s tallest hotel is poised to become one of Hong Kong’s top fine dining destinations. It houses a Chinese restaurant named Tin Lung Heen, an Italian restaurant called Tosca and there is the Chocolate Library, a chocolate-themed lounge that chocolate lovers would adore. However, the greatest buzz is around the rooftop bar OZONE which is sure to offer a beautiful view of the Hong Kong skyline. The bar will be offering Asian tapas and sushi. The clincher, however, will be its open-air lounge.

The upcoming “tallest hotel in the world” will bear this distinction only till 2014, when the J-Hotel opens to guests in the 2,073-foot Shanghai Tower. However, the hotel chain’s Regional Vice President and General Manager Mark DeCocinis, is not too concerned. It is not height, but service that is most important, says DeCocinis. And you will be paying a pretty sum for this service, what with rack rates starting from $770 a night.
