For someone who loves to eat, spending on good food is never an issue. But when the bill is £750.10 for a single kebab, it is a bit much for most people. British chef Andy Bates, the man behind Eat My Pies, has devised the most expensive doner kebab in the world.
Chef Bates has hand picked each ingredient that has gone into the making of this highly expensive kebab. The meat is a shoulder of milk-fed lamb from the Pyrenees that Bates selected himself. This alone costs a cool £84. Add to this barrel aged feta cheese worth £54.20. Also used in this exclusive doner kebab are edible gold leaf and platinum worth £130, saffron worth £138, and the most expensive ingredient of all, Krug Grande Cuvee Champagne worth £195.
The cheese and a cucumber yoghurt are infused with the high-end champagne, before being finished off with the gold leaf and platinum. The other ingredients that go into this expensive doner kebab are Coeur de Boeuf tomatoes worth £20, micro cress and Bibb salad worth £11.95, chili peppers worth £35, Laudemio extra virgin olive oil worth £26.95 and purple violet potatoes worth £15.
However, this gourmet version of the popular Turkish kebab is not alone on the list of the most expensive foods of the world. In New York, Del Pesto’s 12-course meal will set you back by $1,269 per couple. Some of the world’s most expensive sushi is also available at New York’s Masa restaurant, where a meal for two can cost $1,500. Meanwhile, Serendipity 3 in New York serves up the most expensive “haute” dog for a cool $69.
