Moscow Becomes the Billionaire’s Capital of the World with 79 Billionaires

China has the fastest growing economy in the world for over a decade now which has created many millionaires and billionaires. But surprisingly it is neither Shanghai nor Beijing who can boast of the largest number of billionaires. The honor goes to the Russian capital Moscow which has the largest concentration of billionaires. According to BillionairesBunker.com the city has regained the title and the year 2012 has seen a sudden jump in the number of billionaires who call Moscow their home. According to current statistics Moscow boasts of a total of 79 billionaires. The number is far greater than any other city in the world can boast of.

Novolipetsk Iron & Steel owner Vladimir Lisin tops the list of Moscow billionaires with a fortune of $24 billion. He is followed by Aleksey Mordashov, director of Severstal with a wealth of $18.5 billion and ONEXIM group president Mikhail Prokhorov with $18 billion is placed third. The top three occupants of the list represent wealth in excess of $60 billion. Despite Putin regaining the Russian Presidency Moscow is attracting more and more affluent people with riches to die for. The trend has changed in favor of Moscow in the last one year. Last year the numbers were as low as 32 billionaires with another 62 in the making.

Europe has a total of 300 billionaires and almost 100 of them call Russia their home. Atleast 15 of them belong to the world’s top 100 fortunes list. When you analyze the data a little closely you will realize that one of the main reasons for this phenomenon is the the growth in the internet business men within Russia, many of whom own shares in Twitter and Facebook. New billionaires like Alisher Usmanov bet and won on internet companies despite their not being part of his core business. Nogotov, aged 35 features 13th on the list of youngest billionaires in the world. He is based in Moscow and operates the 2nd largest cell phone retailer Svyaznoy. He is also the founder of Svyaznoy Bank. He has achieved a lot in a short time. There are many others who are on the verge of joining the billionaires club and it seems unlikely that any other city can snatch the title of billionaire’s capital of the world from Moscow in the near future.
