News is the piano is scheduled to be auctioned tonight at Christie’s fundraising juncture in Manhattan and is expected to generate minimum $500,000 that would be contributed towards charity. This musical instrument is an outcome of is a exclusive association between Steinway and Sons, marquetry artist Silas Kopf, popular recording artists, and two charities (the Walden Woods Project and American Forests).
The piano is a blessed instrument as it has been played by artists’ viz. Elton John, Dave Brubeck, Herbie Hancock, Bruce Hornsby and Billy Joel. The wood used to design the marquetry wood art on the piano is from the area adjacent to the historic Walden Pond in Massachusetts. The legs of the piano clearly reflects the mirror image of the inverted arches that portray Walden Pond and Thoreau’s renowned quotation, “I went to the woods to live deliberately…” is imprinted in the upper edge of the piano.
