Salon Privé London as an event has been in existence for just five years but the enthusiastic response from collectors and buyers of modern and classic super & luxury cars has made it the most eagerly anticipated event and a luxury and supercar show. And since it is growing bigger every year the location this year was shifted to the spectacular grounds of historic Syon Park. The imposing Syon House and its beautifully manicured lawns present the perfect setting for Salon Prive London that has now grown to become one of the UK’s most prestigious events.
At the end of the event the final result was a whooping £5.1 million worth of sales and 77% of the entries finding a buyer. This was another year that saw cars from Bentley and Aston Martin dominated the show. A 1929 Bentley Speed Six ‘Le Mans’ Style Tourer turned out to be the top selling entry. This green metal car with a canvas top and massive chromed radiator and driving lights sold for £470,400. A 1926 Rolls-Royce Phantom I Experimental Sports Tourer, also found a new owner, for £392,000.
Aston Martins had a strong presence in the event with 15 cars in the catalogue. In fact the second highest price was recorded by a 1960s Aston Martin Convertible which was once owned by Sir Peter Ustinov. The car was sold for a strong £431,200. Of the 15 Aston Martins on the block 12 found buyers. The ‘James Bond spec’ 1964 Aston Martin DB5 was sold for £263,200. Amongst the Jaguars on display the best price was realized by a Roadster which went for an impressive £201,600 but a Sports Saloon of 1937 make could garner only £28,000. RM Auctions that handled the sales will now be moving to the US to conduct a sale for the Concours d’Elegance of America on July 30.
