The designer marketplace on the net has established itself as a popular channel for high end designer stuff. Boticca.com is the new entrant in the field and is being noticed for selling fashion accessories that were originally designed for Lady Gaga, Jessica Alba and Cameron Diaz. Boticca is a London based startup which was launched in October 2010. The high end designer items they are making available on their marketplace has hit the right cord with the consumers looking for stylish designs. They are already in the expansion mode and announced that they have finalized the funding arrangement for the same.
In their short existence of a few months Boticca had been getting a lot of investor interest and attention. Their team finally announced that £1.5 million which is $2.5 million approximately round of funding has been finalized. This new round of funding will be used for developing editorial content, additional market channels and adding new people to the team. Post launch, this is the first round of funding for the designer marketplace. An international group of investors have come together to fund Boticca. France’s entrepreneur fund ISAI and Bobby Yazdani, the founders of Links of London and Japan’s Digital Garage, are part of the consortium that is funding the high end designer marketplace.
The online marketplace or an e-commerce platform has an international reach. Boticca had a very international approach since its launch. In a relatively short time Boticca has developed a base of 4,000 exclusive pieces made by 180 designers from 30 different countries. They have a global focus and this funding also has a very clear international component. 60% of all transactions made on Boticca has been intercontinental. They are selective about the designers who open a boutique on their platform. Once approved, the designer can open the boutique free of charge. Boticca simply takes a cut of 25% on each sale.
