The property developers who had invested recklessly in extravagantly designed mansions in Ireland during the real estate boom are taking huge hits to get rid of excess property on their hands. Last year the Walford Mansion was in the news when it was sold finally after taking a 75% discount on the initial asking price. The real estate market has hit such a low that even at the hugely discounted price it was the most expensive house sold in Ireland. There is no indication of any improvement in the situation as yet as the Winterwood Mansion which has been on the market is following the same pattern.
Located in Limerick, it is a 3 storey elaborate structure which was listed originally way back in 2008 for $15.7 million. The price had to be discounted repeatedly until it was finally sold for $2.5 million recently. The home was once considered the most expensive home in Ireland and was talked about a lot for the largest privately commissioned chandelier in the area. The mansion has several other luxurious features apart from the chandelier. The landscaped gardens on the property are spread over 2.8 acres of space. The mansion has a total of 16,500 square feet of living space but the highlight is the atrium hallway where the stunning chandelier takes the pride of place.
The mansion has eight bedrooms and eight bathrooms. The mansion boasts of five reception rooms, sauna, Jacuzzi, library, gymnasium and multiple drawing rooms. Another exclusive feature of the home is a complimentary membership of the Adare Golf Club. The mansion is one of 19 homes built on the grounds of Adare Manor, owned by US millionaire businessman Tom Kane. It has never been lived in and the buyer has got a practically new luxury home for a very reasonable price.
