Jared Rusten who designs furniture under the name of J. Rusten Furniture Studio has come up with a California Series of desks and coffee tables. At first glance, these pieces of designer furniture appear jagged and slightly unfinished. Don’t let that fool you. Look closer and you will find that the California desks and coffee tables from the workshops of the J. Rusten Furniture Studio are beautiful creations that are designed to add a whole new dimension to any home or workspace.
These wooden tables whose tops are shaped like the California map are functional pieces that are crafted completely by hand. The top of these tables is crafted from the wood of salvaged Claro walnut trees, a species that is native to the state of California. Meanwhile, the base is built using salvaged white oak, which is then treated using a solution of vinegar and steel to create the charcoal/ebony stained effect.
The California desks are available in two sizes: large and medium. The large desk is priced at $2,950 and the medium one at $2,350. Meanwhile, the medium coffee table comes for $2,250 and the small one for $1,650.
The San Francisco-based Rusten specializes in modern furniture, sculpture and artwork crafted out of solid wood. He started the J. Rusten Furniture Studio in 2003, with the aim of creating singular pieces of furniture. The studio is located in San Francisco’s Mission District.
