Katherine Hepburn’s Connecticut Mansion Is Up For Sale

The luxury mansion that legendary actor Katherine Hepburn resided in until her death at the age of 96 is up for sale. The mansion in Old Saybrook in Connecticut is spread over 8,368 square feet. Buyers who wish to live as the veteran actor did, would have to shell out a whopping $28 million for the property. However, the house is divided into three separate sections, which can be bought separately for $18 million.

The house stands in the elite neighborhood of Fenwick in Old Saybrook. It was built in 1913 by Hepburn’s parents. Back then, the couple spent $2,400 on building the house, a number that seems unimaginable given the current asking rate. The Great New England Hurricane destroyed the house back in 1938, compelling her parents to rebuild it. The current owner, F.J. Sciame heads F.J. Sciame Construction. He bought the house in 2004 for $6 million and carried out a lot of renovation work.

The lavish house is home to six bedrooms, eight baths and 15 rooms that are divided into three suites. Beautiful white furniture add a pristine quality to the interiors. The walls too are painted white. The colonial style architecture creates a magnificent and classic effect, well suited to a luxury mansion that was once home to the four-time Oscar winner.

The Old Saybrook mansion also offers private dock access to the Long Island Sound pond. In addition, the mansion stands on the banks of the waterfront. This celebrity home offers beautiful views of the Outer Light and Inner Light lighthouses of Old Saybrook, which are rather like local landmarks. The luxury property is listed on William Pitt Sotheby’s International Realty.
