Bottega Presents Wine in a Designer Bottle and Packaging at Vinexpo

The Vinexpo 2011 show in Bordeaux this week has on display what could be called designer wine. Distilleria Bottega is presenting Amarone Bottega. It is the result of an exclusive collaboration between Bottega and Denise Focil. The renowned American stylist has created in limited edition, what is being called IL Vino Pret-à-Porter. If you are visiting the Vinexpo 2011 you can see the exclusive bottle of wine in Hall1, Stand E284. Focil is best known as the creator of the ‘Alpinestars by Denise Focil’ collection has added a fashionable twist to the traditional bottle of wine.

The bottle has got a designer twist with a label imprinted on a white leather rectangle, framed by a sequence of metal studs. This must be the first such experiment of this kind. The designer who is known for her work with leather does not stop at the leather label for the bottle but houses the bottle in a case which is also made of leather. The leather case has also been enhanced with studs and features a strap for ease of carrying. It is the signature touch by Focil who has been creating stunning leather jackets for many of the popular Hollywood stars.

It is not just the packaging which is special for Amarone Bottega. The contents of the bottle are a special vintage of Amarone, which originates from Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara grapes. These are very special grapes which are harvested in the highest part of Valpolicella, at about 600m in height. The grapes become fully mature sometime after mid October. The wine made from these grapes is aged in small oak casks. Amarone is a wine that is generally recommended with cheese and red meat. The wine has a light tannic aftertaste and is characterized by the scent of sour cherry.
