Vintage Cars In India Get A Royal Treatment With The Cartier Concours d’Elegance 2011


One of the foremost and most prestigious of all car shows, the Cartier Concours d’Elegance, hosted by the renowned French jeweler and watchmaker, Cartier International, aims at honoring some of the most classic automobiles, that after leaving their marks on the auto industry, have now made their way into the history books. Cartier recently concluded the Cartier Concours d’Elegance 2011 event in India and showcased some of the most gorgeous vintage cars in existence from the Indian subcontinent.

This year’s Cartier Concours d’Elegance witnessed the display of 56 exquisite classic automobiles, all in excellent condition and for the 2011 event, the organizers had added three more categories to the event. The first being a Children’s Choice award, where in the judges were John McCaw and William ‘Chip’ Connor II. The second special category was the Lady’s Choice award, where in the winner was bestowed upon with the title by none other than the former model Yasmin Le Bon. Even with such a rare and gorgeous collection of historic cars, all eyes were riveted on a 1911 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost Dome Roof Limousine, a.k.a, ‘The Throne Car’, that has been exclusively preserved by Princess Ezra of Hyderabad and even bagged ‘The Best Car of the Show Award for 2011’ title. The entire line of judges was composed of some of the most high profile names including, His Royal Highness (HRH) Prince Michael of Kent, Sir Anthony Bamford, David Clark, William ‘Chip’ Connor II, Sir Michael Kadoorie, Yasmine Le Bon, Olivier Martinez, John McCaw, Gordon Murray, Bryan Ferry and Peter Stevens.

  • 1911 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost Dome Roof Limousine.

Jaguar Class:

  • Runner up—1947 SS Jaguar.
  • Best of Class—1937 SS Jaguar.

Roadster Class:

1.      Best of Class—1959 Daimler SP 250 Dart.

Indian Heritage Class:

  • Best of Class—1955 Fiat 1100-103 Millecento.

Post-War Classics Class:

  • American Runner up—1956 Cadillac Series 62 Convertible.
  • European Runner up—1958 Mercedes 300D.
  • Best of Class—1947 Cadillac Series 62.

Resurrection Cup:

  • 1929 Mercedes Nurburg.

Judges Choice (Ladies):

  • 1928 Lancia Di Lambda.

Classics Class:

  • Runner up—1930 Stutz Series M.
  • Best of Class—1938 Bentley 4 ¼ liter overdrive MX Series.

Preservation Class:

  • Best of Class—1959 Chevrolet Impala.

Classics Rolls Royce Class:

  • Runner up—1937 Rolls Royce 25/30 h.p.

Children’s Choice:

  • 1925 Rolls Royce Phantom 1
