A Rare Wine Unearthed from the largest Restaurant Wine Collection in the World

Bern’s Steakhouse in Tampa, Florida has the honor of having the world’s largest restaurant wine collection. They have almost 500,000 bottles in their collection. You must be wondering how they manage it, classify it and store it. It is a big job and several sommeliers are working full time in arranging and rearranging the cellar. And in this process they often discover some hidden treasure in the form of a rare wine bottle stored for long in their cellar.

But what senior sommelier Eric Renaud uncovered a few months back is the rarest of them all. He said that he noticed this bottle because it was tucked the wrong way so he rolled the bottle over and seemed to hit the jackpot as it was a bottle of 1947 Chateau Latour. This is the biggest find from the cellar of Bern’s Steakhouse so far.

The prized Bordeaux will be part of Bern’s new wine list when it’s released next month and will have an asking price of $30,000. The bottle was most likely bought by the restaurant in the 1960s when the founder Bern Laxer made the purchases himself. The bottle will have to be ordered in the restaurant and drunk there as the Bern’s do not have a package license.
