Karl Lagerfeld Plays Himself in a Volkswagen Commercial

Volkswagen is creating a special commercial for their special edition models of cars to be released soon. The special edition models will made under the Style banner. Karl Lagerfeld is in Berlin now filming the 30 second commercial spot. The campaign to promote the special edition models will be released on December 22. Lagerfeld plays himself in the commercial, according to the Marketing Director Volkswagen. The spot is being directed by Johan Renk who became famous for making popular music videos for Madonna and Robbie Williams.

The commercial will show the illustrious German designer photographing the cars and musing aloud. He has a large body of work behind him that indicates his genius. His pet project though has been shooting the Pirelli calendar. He has earlier starred in a print ad for the French mail-order company 3 Suisses. He was photographing their A/W 2010 catalog and appeared in their washing machine ad as a gesture.

Lagerfeld has put out a one off collection for Swedish “fast fashion” chain H&M in 2004. He will get back to it soon. In fact that is going to be his next endeavor, designing an affordable, mass market women’s collection for U.S. department store chain Macy’s, due to hit stores in September 2011.
