10 years hence, if I was to put up my personal stuff on ebay, it would probably not even fetch my expected price unless I turn into somebody like Hilton Heiress or have a John Lennon signed Guitar. Bob, a retired Navy Doctor wasn’t exactly featured in the Hall of Fame but had something which watch enthusiasts would trade their life for- The Rare Rolex Submariner Ref 5510 that featured in a series of Bond movies like Dr. No, Goldfinger, and Thunderball. He had put up his watch on eBay for $9.95 and it took just took lots of hits and little time to make him realize that he was owning bit of glorious Rolex and Bond history here.
In few days the price touched $30,000 and was finally auctioned for a whopping $66,100. The owner had bought this watch 52 years ago at a Navy Exchange on Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands for just $10.
When Bob was unaware of the watch’s significance, he thought the roof-top-piercing prices are a system glitch. It was that’s when he asked his son to do research and they finally discovered what they had on their hands. Well, this was a good opportunity to save money and own a Bond heritage watch for the new timepiece is being retailed for as much as $100,000.
