Conde Nast Traveler recently announced the names of the deserving winners of their prestigious 2010 Readers’ Choice awards, lauding the best in the travel business. Some 25,916 votes were cast that covered almost 10,000 destinations, as well as airlines and cruises. San Fransisco clinched the title of best city in the US for an impressive 18th time in a row. Florence in Italy, Bangkok in Asia, Cape Town in Africa and Middle East, and Sydney in Australia/Pacific regions emerged as the winners. Bermuda was voted the best island in the Caribbean/Atlantic Islands, then Maui in the Oceania Islands, the Maldives in Asia/Indian Ocean, Kiawah in South Carolina won the best US islands and Greece’s Mykonos and Cyclades were voted as the best islands in Europe.
Singapore Airlines was voted Numero Uno in the airlines category, while Virgin America was given the same spot for North America. Disney cruised its way on Best for the best cruise line for mega-ships, Crystal Cruises for large ships and the Yachts of Seabourn for small ships. And these were voted the best hotels in their respective regions: Best Hotel Southern Europe – Il San Pietro di Positano, Italy; Best Hotel Northern Europe – Four Seasons Gresham Palace, Budapest, Hungary; Best Small Hotel Europe – Perivolas, Santorini, Greece; Best Hotel Central America – Lapa Rios Ecolodge, Osa Peninsuala, Costa Rica; Best Hotel Oceania – Blue Sydney, Woolloomooloo Bay, Australia; Best Hotel British Isles – Milestone Hotel, London, UK.
Best Hotel Caribbean/Atlantic – Peninsula House, Las Terrenas, Dominican Republic; Best Hotel Asia – The Peninsula, Tokyo, Japan; Best Hotel Africa – Le Franschhoek Hotel & Spa, South Africa; Best Hotel Canada – Hotel Le Germain-Dominion, Quebec City; Best Hotel Mexico – Las Mananitas, Cuernavaca; Best Hotel United States – 21c Museum Hotel, Louisville; Best Small Hotel United States – Chanler at Cliff Walk, Newport; Best Hotel South America – Hotel Fasano, Sao Paolo, Brazil; Best Hotel Middle East – Park Hyatt Dubai, UAE.
