Armani Buys the Greek Island on Which Onassis Married Jackie Kennedy

A beautiful Greek island which has some historical significance as well changed hands recently. Skorpios, one of the world’s most beautiful and expensive private islands originally owned by the famous Onassis family has been purchased by the legendary Italian fashion designer Giorgio Armani. To become the proud owner of the beautiful island Armani is reported to have paid about $190 million.

The European press has reported about the deal extensively. As per the reports Armani faced stiff competition from rival bidders like Bill Gates, Roman Abramovich and Madonna. The competition must have been real tough but ultimately the designer managed to close the deal with Athina Onassis Roussel, Aristotle Onassis’ granddaughter and heiress. Apart from the beauty of the island it is also significant because it was the site of the wedding of Greek shipping billionaire Aristotle Onassis and Jackie Kennedy.

The island is located in the Ionian Sea off the western coast of Greece. Onassis, the former owner had built a lavish villa on the island known as the Pink House for Jackie. The villa has tennis courts and is surrounded by plush gardens. The rest of the island has been left almost totally untouched and as a result most of the island remains undeveloped and pristinely beautiful.
