Nick and Christian Candy have truly become the kings of London’s luxury real estate scene. In the recent months, all the ultra high end transactions in luxury real estate in London seems to be happening at only one address and that is One Hyde Park, the building developed by the Candy brothers. Just last month four flats, at One Hyde Park, out of a total of 86 luxury apartments in London’s most lavish residential development was reportedly sold for £62 million. Last week a three floor luxury penthouse in the same development was snapped up for a staggering £136m ($221 million).
If you go by the prices at which the transactions are taking place then One Hyde Park is the most sought after address in London. This latest sale has made it the most expensive apartment sale on record. Last year in August another luxury penthouse at one Hyde Park with six bedrooms on two floors had also been sold in a similar price bracket. This luxury development seems to be holding on to the most expensive flat since 2008 when another Penthouse was sold for $200 million. The luxury penthouses command a premium when compared to other flats in the development. As recently as January this year a luxury penthouse in the building was sold at $9,602 per square foot which is the highest for real estate in London.
The buyer who has got into One Hyde Park last week has not disclosed his identity but has used an off shore company to make the purchase. The deal includes a confidentiality clause but the buyer could be one of the eight billionaires from Ukraine as according to reports a Ukrainian law firm oversaw the transaction. The 25,000 square feet apartment comes equipped with a wine cellar, and thanks to a partnership with the Mandarin Oriental next door, residents are treated as hotel guests and can order room service. Former British Special Forces officers provide the security that includes bulletproof glass in windows. The penthouse is not furnished and it is reported that Nick Candy’s interior design company Candy & Candy has been retained to do the interiors for an additional £60 million, or $97 million.
