Porsche’s plans for their hybrid might be long drawn out but they are on track. They have recently announced that their dealers would now be taking orders for their revolutionary plug-in hybrid 918 Spyder. The vehicle has not gone into production as yet. That part of the plan is still couple of years away. As per their announcement, this is another significant step towards actual production of the company’s next super sports car.
As per their plans the Spyder will become available for the US consumers towards the end of year 2013. That is still over two years away but those who book now will be the pioneer owners of these cars as there are going to be only 918 Spyders worldwide. There is no compromise on the power of Spyder as it will have a V8 engine with over 500 horsepower. In addition there will be two electric motors generating a total of 218 horsepower.
Porsche will ensure that the new sports car follows the guidelines of New European Driving Cycle of consuming 3 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers but the actual fuel economy estimates will be clear just before the cars actually start arriving. Porsche has created a Special Edition Porsche 911 Turbo S Edition and tagged it with the Spyder. Only 918 pieces of 911 special edition will be made and will be available to those who book for the hybrid 918 Spyder. The 911 will be available sometime later this year in two models, Coupe and Cabriolet with prices starting at $160,700 and $172,200 respectively.
