Watching Watches: Unique Satellarium Finds its Clone!

When a company says that they are making “one-of-a-kind” piece, then you better be sure before spending a fortune on it. Maybe you would want to make sure that there is no exact replica of what you bought, but I guess there is no sure way to find out. In 2001 Vianney Halter created a project called “Faces of Time” which also included a one-of-a-kind watch. For that one, Halter imagined and realized a very special timepiece that was called “Satellarium” due to his very special shape. Apparently this watch was delivered to Goldpfeil in 2001 and sold.

The Satellarium is a piece that is covered completely in Platinum and is automated with 3 round cases linked together and inserted into a structure. In the larger case is the Hour and Minute display while in the lower “satellite” case is the moonphase and in the upper “satellite” case. The price of the unique watch could be well over $450,000. But Halter apparently made a replica of the original one and that was never sold or shipped to Goldpfeil.

The replica is slightly different from the original one but if you were the Russian owner who has the original, you would be entitled to feel slightly disappointed. The value of the original in the market today could still fetch him well over $500,000 and that might be pretty satisfying though!
