The World’s Costliest Perfume: A Gift For The Royal Couple

The royal wedding is over, but we still keep hearing snippets of news related to the royal couple. Take, for instance, the present being given to William and Kate by Roja Dove Haute Perfumerie and Clive Christian Perfumes. The perfume houses have decided to gift the royal couple the world’s most expensive fragrances – Clive Christian No. 1 Pure Perfumes.

Retailing at $5,000, the perfume came to be designed after Clive Christian’s daughter Victoria Christian found the original perfume bottle hidden away in the floorboards of their home. The perfume belonged to the 1800s and came from Britain’s famous Crown Perfumery, a house that has long been associated with the royal family. Apparently, Queen Victoria had allowed the perfumery to use the symbol of her crown and had custom fragrances created for Prince Albert and herself. Having found this original bottle, Christian decided to try and recreate the fragrance. Thus, the world’s most expensive perfume was born.

Of course, you cannot just give the regular retail version to the royal pair. So Clive worked on repackaging his No. 1 Pure Perfumes for him and her. The perfume bottles are crafted out of hand-cut crystal. A “C” marks out Catherine’s perfume, a “W” marks out William’s. Raise the bottle and you will spot the brilliant-cut diamond solitaire placed inside. The bottles have been placed within a black case that boasts of an embroidered royal coat-of-arms.

This may not be a custom-made perfume for the royal pair, but it certainly is highly exclusive. Only a thousand bottles are produced every year. If you are hoping to smell like William and Kate, Urban Retreat at Harrod’s stocks it in the UK. If you are stateside, try Saks, Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman.
