The Grand European Country House in Starwood has become a Base for Art and Culture

The Bavarian style 16,000 square foot house of Carolyn and Bill Powers located in the posh Starwood neighborhood is perched on a hill with a panoramic view of snow capped mountains. The house was purchased in 2006 and transformed into a grand European country house. The house is ideal for entertaining and they host a lot of philanthropic events. Mrs. Powers is on the board of the Aspen Art Museum and it is reflected in her house as well as you come across a fine contemporary art collection everywhere.

The hose has gray cashmere covered walls, hardwood floor, 50-foot-high wood beam ceilings, red cashmere curtains. The artists whose works adorn the house include Roy Lichtenstein, Baltasar Lobo, Joan Miró, Willem de Kooning, Richard Diebenkorn, David Hockney, Ansel Adams, Ruscha and finally Picasso. Well, it is not really an art gallery but comes with the best of amenities that give it the air of a luxury hotel. The slate patio in the back of the house has the best view and it extends into the entertainment area next to the steaming infinity swimming pool.

You could simply go on about the house. A marbled spa with an indoor Jacuzzi and steam room. An exercise area with a room for yoga. A recreation room in the basement. The couple decided on Aspen because they feel people in Aspen tend to be more outgoing and Aspen has so much more to offer culturally. If you are interested in being their neighbor there is an option of a six-bedroom, 15,000-square-foot house which is listed for $19.8 million after being scaled down from $27.5 million.
