Shangri-La’s Villingili Resort and Spa in Maldives has taken another step to make their guests feel extra special. It has become the first five star property in the island nation to have its very own executive terminal at the Gan International Airport in the Addu Atoll. This executive terminal is merely five minutes away from the resort. This collaboration between the Shangri La resort and the government was officially launched in January this year. The guests of honour were Maldives’ minister of defence and national security who is also the acting transport and communications minister, Mr. Mohamed Nazim; and minister of finance and treasury, Mr. Abdullah Jihaad.
This Executive Terminal was built in 2011 for the SAARC Summit and was later on taken over by the people at Shangri La. It will be used exclusively for the arrival and departure of their guests. Now christened’ the new terminal’, it will have two rooms and exclusive section for VIPs. The amenities offered will be like any other exclusive airport lounge. Guests will be taken to the resort from the airport on a speedboat. Guests can either come to the Gan International airport via Male, the Maldivian capital, or directly to Addu Atoll by a private jet. The general manager of the resort, Mr. Egle expressed his delight at this collaboration with the Gan airport, which will provide a truly personalized welcome to its guests.
Maldives has become one of the foremost beach destinations in the world. We are not surprised because of the scenic beaches it offers. Tourism is the most important source of income for the island nation, and the government will obviously try its best to make sure those tourists keep coming. There are a number of amazing resorts here including the Niyama Resort, which has the world first underwater music club, or the Conrad Hotel, which offers submarine rides to its guests!
