The concept of the vending machine is to provide things of daily consumption any where 24×7 every day of the week. The Hudson Hotel in New York City has taken this concept a little forward by making things available through an oversized vending machine which can not be brought under the category of essentials. Their vending machine is stocked not just with everyday travel necessities but with items that are both luxurious and a little quirky.
This concept of Semi Automatic was first started last year at the Mondrian in South Beach. The idea was to offer everything from bikinis to Bentley rentals. The machine at Hudson stocks several out of the ordinary things like copies of Catcher in the Rye, a Paul Smith toothbrush, Ouija Board, a Dagger Rosary by jewelry designer Pamela Love, a black sequin mini skirt by Haute Hippie, Blueprint Cleanse and many more items. It also has on offer a personal portrait shoot with photographer Ben Watts and a way to rent a red Ferrari from Gotham Dream Cars.
The machine is available to guests 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and will present new luxury items on a regular basis. The variety is almost unlimited and the price range is also very wide from $4 to $10,000.
