Sammy Sosa’s baseball bat, which has been one of the most controversial of all bats, was in the possession of former Cubs pitcher Mike Remlinger.  Grant DePorter, the CEO of Harry Caray’s Restaurant Group bought the mauled and worn out bat for $14407 and also gave $2,000 to Schulte Auction as commission.
Sammy Sosa had used the bat in 2003 during match against the Tampa Bay Rays. When his bat was broken and the cork was exposed during his play, he was sacked from the team and suspended. He said that if Remlinger was really in need of money and he had asked for it, he would have given him.
It is really a mystery how Remlinger had the bat in his custody. The real story according to Remlinger is that he noticed the bat below a bag lying on the floor a tunnel between clubhouse and the dugout. Immediately he picked it up and brought it the clubhouse and kept in the fishing rod case till the rest of the year and from there he brought it to home. It is funny how a silly bat could generate so much of media attention, and that too, something with which you can’t even play!
