Porsche To Now Bring To Life The Classic Porsche 550 Spyder With Modern Look & Feel

One of the biggest names in the field of luxury sports cars, Porsche, has now announced that company is on its way of introducing an all-new Porche vehicle. However, this new car will not be of a new concept, but will a 21st century rendition of the company’s incredibly famous Porsche 550 Spyder sports car. The Spyder witnessed incredible popularity during its three year production run from 1952 to 1956, a timeline before which Porsche manufactured some 550 Spyder prototypes that were designed for racing purposes and were even raced by Walter Glöckler in the year 1951. The new proposed Porsche 550 Spyder is believed to carry a new mid-engine aluminum and steel platform, where in the car itself according to speculations be powered by a new four-cylinder boxer engine. This engine is also used to provide power to the some of the most popular Porsche models such as the Porsche Boxster and Porsche Cayman models.

As they say that no publicity is bad publicity, the same happened with Porsche 550 Spyder  numbered 130 (serial number 550-0055) that shot to notoriety on September 30, 1955, when this model was involved in a road accident that claimed the life of acclaimed actor, James Dean. This particular Porsche was nicknamed “Little Bastard” by the famous actor himself. The new Porsche 550 Spyder is said to be developed as a tribute to the original model and the new variant will have nearly all aspects changes as per the modern times, except the car’s badge. The new Porsche model is expected to carry a price tag of $80,000.

According to Matthias Mueller (Executive, Porsche),

“I can imagine that such a modern version of the famous ’James Dean ’ Porsche would be well-received by our customers. The new model will not be retro-styled.”
