Philips Uses USB Port for First Time to Charge Toothbrush

Electric toothbrush keeps getting upgraded and improved with evolving technology. Philips has recently launched a new model which isn’t dramatically different from its earlier models but the unique feature of the new launch is that the toothbrush uses a USB port to charge its batteries. The company is calling it the iPod of toothbrushes. The USB is fitted to the rigid plastic travel case that houses the toothbrush and increases the convenience for users. The charger that comes with the toothbrush is an adaptor for traditional bathroom sockets and the USB cable can be plugged in easily.

Philips has named the new model Sonicare Diamond Clean and has positioned it as the most advanced toothbrush yet. Sonicare comes with five brushing modes and options. Apart from the USB port for charging the new model comes with a ‘charge glass’ for wireless charging. Most of the previous models came with plastic chargers and it was a job to keep them clean. Cleanliness is a major issue when it comes to toothbrush and the equipment that comes with it.

USB port has become increasingly popular for charging. The sat navs and mobile phones all use USB ports for charging. The initial trend was to use proprietary adaptors that brought the regulators into play who have encouraged the mobile phone makers to go for standard plugs. The USB port has traditionally been associated with laptops and computers and Philips claims that they are the first to use the system that would be mostly used in the bathroom. Philips is focusing on developing technically superior products and improved models. They have launched a new device called AirFloss that fires a microburst of air and water between teeth at 45mph to remove plaque.
