Patek Philippe Creates a Unique Titanic Dome Clock for Lunn’s Diamond Anniversary

Patek Philippe, the renowned luxury watch maker has reached an important milestone and will be celebrating its 175th anniversary this year. Lunn’s, a Belfast based jeweler is also celebrating its Diamond anniversary and the two luxury brands have come together to create a commemorative table clock. Thierry Stern, the Chairman of Patek Philippe and his wife Sandrine have been involved with the project directly. Mr. Stern had visited Belfast in 2010 and was hosted by Lunn’s. He was taken on a tour of the Titanic Quarter and brought into the rarely seen Drawing Offices of Harland and Wolff. The commemorative table clock has been enameled on the theme of the RMS Titanic’s 1912 voyage.

Thierry Stern has been fascinated with the Titanic and its legacy and that tour reaffirmed it. When it was decided to make a table clock for Lunn’s anniversary way back in 2011 he put his wife Sandrine in charge of the design project. She holds the position of head of creative department at Patek and got the best talent at her disposal to create this unique clock. Over the years Patek has been making a small number of dome clocks every year. The watch lovers and collectors look forward to their release as each one of them has a unique design. However it is the first time in their long history that they have made a dome clock for a brand in Britain or Ireland.

Titanic on the Back of the Clock

Like their other dome clocks this piece also has a unique design and took almost five months to complete. The enameling on the clock is very elaborate and took almost 200 hours of skilled craftsmanship to complete. 22 different enamel colors were used in the Titanic table clock. The unique clock also features 25 meters of gold ribbon. The dial plate of the clock has been finished with cloisonné enamel in gold. The numerals are Roman and rather large. They have been finished with black enamel. The dome of the clock has been inspired by the Titanic’s domed glass ceiling. The exclusive commemorative clock has been put up for display in Belfast in the Lunn’s showroom in Queens Arcade.
