A recent residential real estate transaction in Charleston County broke all previous records of the County. An oceanfront Kiawah Island home sold for $14 million which is a new record for the county. The 9,900 square feet house cost the buyer more than $1,400 per square foot. The three-story structure was designed by Robert Stem and it occupies two lots measuring a total of 2.3 acres.
The house with six bedrooms boasts of seven bathrooms, a modern well equipped kitchen, a pool, a third floor retreat with a private deck and a guest house. The other features that boosted the cost of the house are red cedar shingles, painted mahogany trim, coffered ceilings, a butler’s pantry, two staircases, an elevator, a wrap-around porch and to top it all a winding boardwalk to the beach. The property was initially listed for $13.75 million but it went up to $14 million when some furnishings were included in the sale.
Paul G Kimball, formerly with Morgan Stanley was the seller and the buyer was 181 Ballybunion Ventures LLC, a company managed by Jude Reyes as per the records available with the county. The new owner of the house also owns the Chicago based beer distributor and food conglomerate Reyes Holdings LLC. Real estate agent Don Rutledge had the listing and was justifiably proud of being part of the new record of the county.
