Dubai Waterfront will have a massive 6 million square meter development as the Emmar Properties and Dubai Holding have come together to launch the Dubai Creek Harbour Development last week. The project will consist of six residential towers but the highlight of the development will be a pair of rocket-shaped buildings. The details of the twin towers have not been declared as yet but the developers claim that they will be the world’s tallest twinned skyscrapers. The event for the launch saw the unveiling of the master plan for the new district. Emaar is known for their earlier Downtown Dubai development which includes the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest tower. This project is much bigger, almost three times the size of the downtown development.
Dubai Creek Harbour will be developed without disturbing the natural contours of the creek. The new development will come up on an open site and will help Dubai leapfrog many of the world’s other global cities. The development when completed will feature 39,000 homes and 22 hotels. The names of the architects for the project have not been named as yet and the start date for the construction has also not been announced but the residences in the project are already being pre-sold. The details of the project including the height of the record breaking towers have not been finalized as yet. However, Mohamed Alabbar, Chairman of Emaar seemed confident about the project and its success as it was based on the fundamentals of the city.
Mr. Alabbar believes that this business in Dubai has matured over the last few years and all the stakeholders have learnt their lessons during the worldwide financial crisis. The business has finally settled down to the tried and tested framework of supply and demand. The new plans supersede the earlier plans for the area that couldn’t take off because of the financial crisis and the dramatic drop in demand. Emaar pointed out that the project will include a visitor centre that would bring “a message of sustainable biodiversity to new generations”. Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary which is adjacent to the site will remain sacrosanct and will not be disturbed in any way due to the new development.
