Mull of Kintyre Is up for Sale for Estimated £3 Million

The 7360-acre Argyll estate are putting Carskiey House and its surrounding land – which together forms the famous “Mull of Kintyre” – up for sale this week. It could become Scotland’s next luxury resort, an exclusive wedding venue, or a romantic retreat from urban life if you have £3 million to spare. After almost 50 years as a family holiday home it has hit the market and opened up many possibilities for development.

It is owned by two sisters, now in their fifties, whose father bought the estate in 1964 as an idyllic getaway spot. With the family growing up and one of the sisters living in Africa, they are able to use the property occasionally. Andrew Smith, the estate agent is overseeing the sale for Edinburgh-based Strutt & Parker. The estate, which began life as the seat of the MacNeills of Carskey in the 16th century, comprises nine miles of coastline, including the sandy beaches of the crescent-shaped Carskey Bay and the rugged cliffs of the western end, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.

Carskiey House, a nine-bedroom mansion is at the core of the property. There are nine more cottages of varying sizes on the estate largest of which has three bedrooms. The estate now has its own thriving Mull of Kintyre and an array of wildlife, including eagles, red and roe deer, wild goats and grouse.
