The newest royal couple, Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene of Monaco, has a unique wedding gift lying in store for them. Montblanc has created yet another exquisite writing instrument as tribute to the royal newly-weds. The pen in question is a remarkable example of Montblanc’s fine craftsmanship and design expertise.
The wedding pen has been designed by Atelier Hamburg, a much-respected artisan from the Montblanc group. The tribute wedding pen takes inspiration from the architecture of the Prince’s Palace of Monaco and from specific elements of the Principality Flag. The pen also bears the monogram of this Prince and Princess of Monaco.
The white and red of the Monaco flag are represented on the pen using 161 rubies and 128 diamonds. These precious stones adorn the body of this beautiful Montblanc fountain pen that has been crafted out of solid white gold. The nib alone is a work of art. Handcrafted with gold, the nib features various exquisite engravings. There is a dove, rings and a crown, elements that symbolize a wedding that is based on love even though it may be an official state union.
Montblanc Creative Director Carlo Giordanetti described the experience of designing a pen as something akin to falling in love. The Montblanc wedding pen is created to commemorate an official event as well as a private moment for the couple.
Lutz Bethge, CEO of Montblanc International, revealed that the luxury pen-makers were honored to play a part in this romantic royal wedding, especially since “the two persons in love are as outstanding persons as His Highness Prince Albert and Charlene Wittstock.”
