One has to agree that France understands the fashion and luxury the best. It is the centre of the universe as far as fashion, cuisine and luxury goods are concerned. The French luxury has the vitality that can drive the entire industry. Luxury items and luxury products thrive on French creativity. The 2011 event of the Made in France by Fatex Parisian mini-show was a great success but the garment manufacturers still need to remain cautious about the future. The vent held in March end at the Bourse de Commerce was able to attract all the big French names from the luxury and top of the range Prêt à Porter sectors. The entire French luxury industry was represented.
Dior, Hermès, Courrèges, Chloé, Lanvin, Jean-Paul Gaultier Azzaro, Balmain Louis Vuitton, Sonia Rykiel and Thierry Mugler, as well as the young couturier Maxime Simoëns were all in attendance at the event. The number of visitors to the event was up this year and more importantly the order volumes were more than satisfactory. And what was most heartening to see was that the political class and the media was also finally listening to the concerns of the industry. The sector adds very high value to the economy but is very fragile and can get hurt very easily. Eric Besson, the Minister of the Interior, was hopeful that since they have done it before they will again support the industry to optimize its capacity to innovate.
The event established the uniqueness of the French know-how. The interest in French manufacturing has grown. Prêt à porter as a segment is registering healthy growth. Though the French manufacturing of male suits has declined steeply but Made in France has contributed to its revival with customers placing orders. People today realize that Made in France is a way of saving local jobs in the region. In any case the event this year will result in an increase in production up to 10% across the industry.
