Louis Vuitton Plans To Enter The Fragrance Business

Incredibly enough, Louis Vuitton is yet to enter the fragrance market. Given that the French luxury fashion brand has its finger in so many pies, this is hard to believe. But not for long. According to reports, Louis Vuitton is planning to launch a signature fragrance. It will begin work on the scent from early 2012.

The luxury brand has already roped in Jacques Cavallier-Belletrud to work on the signature scent. Cavallier-Belletrud is a third generation perfumer with many big fragrances to his name. The perfumer has already worked with several luxury brands. His portfolio includes Stella by Stella McCartney, L’Eau d’Issey, Jean Paul Gaultier Classic, Dior Addict, Poeme by Lancome, and Cinema by Yves Saint Laurent. As if that were not enough, Cavallier-Belletrud also picked up the Prix François Coty Parfumeur status back in 2004.

Clearly, Louis Vuitton has chosen wisely. And apparently, the search for ingredients of this debut scent is already on. According to some reports, Louis Vuitton has already begun looking at rare, nearly extinct flowers in France to use in the scent. Meanwhile, Cavallier-Belletrud’s strong suit is in using “natural, raw materials”. Work on the sweet smelling concoction has not yet begun, but we are already sensing that this will be a heady scent.

Louis Vuitton has not yet confirmed any reports about work having begun on the Louis Vuitton signature scent. However, creative director Marc Jacobs gave a hint that plans were afoot to create a Louis Vuitton perfume. “At this moment, there is no fragrance although we’re working on that,” he said recently. Once the scent is out, it should be the perfect complement to Marc Jacobs designer clothes, don’t you think?
