The good news is that luxury is becoming eco friendly. The designers are coming forward with designs and creations that are sustainable and leave the least amount of impact on your environment. HauteNatured is at the forefront of this movement and holds shows that encourage designers with environmentally friendly ideas. Linda Loudermilk can be dubbed an eco-luxury designer who has created what she calls the world’s first compostable swimsuit. The material for making these swimsuits is derived from plant starch that will break down completely if buried long enough.
The two piece bikinis designed by Loudermilk debuted at the HauteNatured swimwear show at Miami Swim Week yesterday. The material is biodegradable but is not soluble in water so need not be worried that it might do the vanishing act while you are swimming. Though the material is plant starch it is good enough for repeated use. But it is inexpensive and you can afford to use and throw, rather use and bury. The designer assures us that the material breaks down completely without a trace if buried below the ground, in 180 days or less.
The swimsuit is unusual but has a very fashionable look. It is ideal for giving it to your guests. The swimwear show was aimed raising awareness and money for the SeaKeepers Society. The show also had collections from designers like Eco Swim, Meadow and Mae Couture. Ryan Hattaway, founder of HauteNatured is proud of the fact that runway is serving as a platform to raise awareness about environmental issues and sustainable design. Miami was just the first stop in their annual tour plan. Similar shows have been planned for New York and Los Angeles.
