One of the most renowned and expensive post-war artists in France, Yves Kelin, is now once again in spotlight as the legendary artist’s masterpiece, La Victoire de Samothrace is all set to be sold via one of the foremost high end department stores, Harrods, that has established a name for itself for its vast list of luxury products. This one of a sale conducted by Harrods will be supervised by the store’s Lalique department. Yves Klein became France’s most expensive post war artist, after with the initiative of his widow, one of his masterpieces, IKB monochrome paintings were sold in an auction for a whopping $25 million.
All the sales and auctions of Yves Klein’s work are approved and overseen by the Yves Klein Foundation, that is owned and managed by Daniel Moquay, husband to Mr. Klein’s widow. The all new editions of La Victoire de Samothrace sculpture will be re-created by designers in the Lalique department at Harrods and in all 83 editions will be created, each with a price tag of $120,419. La Victoire de Samothrace is a sculpture that was designed by Yves Klein, after he getting inspiration from a relic he purchased from a shop at the Louvre Museum in the year 1960. The original La Victoire de Samothrace was auctioned off at an auction organized by Phillips de Pury & Company for $80,000.
According to Daniel Moquay,
“It is not a copy, it is a reinterpretation in the spirit of Yves Klein. “But it won’t be included in the artist’s catalogue raisonné. It is 100 percent Lalique.â€
