Jessica Simpson is relatively new in fashion but she is a powerful woman and has been able to make a success of whatever she has done and one has to admit that she has done many things and with a great degree of success. She is described as an American singer, actress, television personality and fashion designer whose rise to fame began in 1999.
She has done well in every field and somehow she has always chosen an industry to step into which is very competitive. These are industries where you cannot succeed if you are ordinary. You have to really excel in your craft to be accepted by the consuming public. Though, right now her focus is on her Jessica Simpson Collection empire which is registering very rapid growth and is projected to cross the $1 billion mark in sales by 2012. This could be one of the reasons why she is dominating the latest issue of Women’s Wear Daily.
Simpson started her career rather early at age 19 with the release of the single “I Wanna Love You for Ever†which was no. 3 in the Billboard Hot 100 in 1999. She launched her career on Television in 2003 with the reality show Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica, starring Simpson and her then-new husband Nick Lachey. The show quickly became a pop culture phenomenon and is credited with making her a household name, even among those who did not follow pop music or MTV.
To cash in on the brand equity of her name Jessica Simpson Dessert by Jessica Simpson’ was launched in April, 2004 after co-founders, Randi Shinder and Simpson designed a line of edible perfume, lip gloss and other beauty products. She subsequently launched hair and beauty products in collaboration with stylist Ken Paves. And then came the Jessica Simpson Collection which started by designing and marketing a line of handbags, high heeled shoes and boots. It has since expanded its presence in the luxury lifestyle space and as Jessica admits herself has been inspired by the Ralph Lauren brand and would like to be where they are today. That is sometime away but she is leaving no stone unturned to make her dream come true.
Her mother is with her in this project and helps her approve every item designed and manufactured under her name. Yes, she and her mother are involved from the concept level to the design process and painstakingly approve every item made under her collection. Jessica said that she approves she approves the fit, fabrics, buttons, thread colors and zipper pulls. She is already selling her merchandise in 28 countries but now her range of products has expanded to an extent where it makes sense to go for her own freestanding stores. Fashion bloggers are also helping her along in her growth story. Her twitter account has a large and growing following. Simpson tweeted about the “Dany,†a Seventies-inspired T-strap platform sandal she wore on the cover of a single — and the shoe sold out instantly. Rumi Neely of the Fashion Toast Blog, who gets up to 90,000 page views a day wears Simpson shoes and talks about it all the time in her blogs. It is true that Jessica has a long way to go but she has reached the take off stage.
