The Festival of Speed was inaugurated on June 30 at Goodwood. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the iconic Jaguar E type, the luxury car maker unveiled a new sculpture on the inaugural day of the festival. The sculpture is a huge structure that soars 28 meters high into the sky and it is the first thing that greets the visitors arriving at the motoring festival. The monument built as a tribute to Jaguar E-type has been created out of piping and has been installed right in front of the Goodwood house.
The weight of the sculpture is equivalent to about 122 of series 1 E-type models. About 150 tons of steel pipes was supplied by a sister concern of the parent company of Jaguar, Tata. Sculptor Gerry Judah has used the pipes very innovatively to create a model of an up-ended E-type. The sculpture has been installed at the festival by Jaguar perhaps to celebrate the successful turnaround of the company after it was taken over by Tata Motors. The popular and prestigious festival will run through till July 3 and around 175,000 people are expected to visit the grounds of Goodwood House in West Sussex.
There are many other participants in the festival. Alongside Jaguar, there will be automobiles of every shape and size. Some of the vehicles on display are expected to attempt a climb up the Goodwood hill. The festival will also be hosting many new models, exclusive creations and concept cars. Rolls Royce is showcasing a special edition bespoke drophead coupé model. Honda is presenting a concept car. Peugeot has brought the all electric EX1 racing concept and the bright pink ‘Elvis Presley style’ Pagani Zonda is sure to attract the visitors to the festival.
