We had recently reported about the 1958 Rolls Royce Silver Cloud Honeymoon Express heading for auction. Now we have come across another exclusive creation on a Rolls Royce platform that has become available for sale. It is basically a Rolls Royce Drophead Coupe that has been completely redesigned by Pininfarina who are a famous Italian design house and coachbuilder. This is a one off custom built car that was made in 2008 by the design house and they gave it the name Hyperion. Pininfarina was commissioned by a Rolls-Royce collector Roland Hall for the job.
Roland Hall had asked the design house to create a car that would remind one of the stylish appeal of the 1930’s lavish cars. The result was a gaudy looking Hyperion. The name was taken from the Greek mythology. Roland Hall did not keep this exclusive creation with him for long but sold it within a year reportedly for $6 million. Hyperion has found its way to Abu Dhabi now and has been listed for sale at the Prestige Car dealership. The price has not been mentioned and is apparently open for negotiation.
Hyperion was built by Special Projects division of Pininfarina and was designed by Jason Castriota,an Italian American automobile designer. It was a Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe that was modified and redesigned to create the Hyperion. The car has 453 hp power coming from the 6.75 liter V12 engine. The convertible model was created after several changes to the car. The rear seats were removed and the driving position was pushed back by 400mm. The rear end of the car was marginally shortened and the roof was extended. The fold was designed exclusively for the car that automatically folds behind the seats under a specially created wood lined cover. The body of the stylish car was crafted almost entirely of carbon fiber except the doors which were made from high quality solid wood.
