Hourly Rates Open a New Revenue Stream for Upscale Hotels

What had started as spicy promotional package for just before and after Valentine’s Day is catching on as a trend and has opened a lucrative revenue stream for upscale hotels who have been struggling to augment their revenues in an stagnating economy. Manhattan‘s posh Le Parker Meridien has rooms that overlook Central Park. During the Valentine’s Day period they offered rooms with views for a four hour stay between 11am and 3pm for $150. Included in the package was, movies on demand, a Champagne split, and strawberries with whipped cream.

The success of the scheme has encouraged the hotels to take advantage of the day time hours by offering tourists a place to rest, wait, prepare or snuggle. There have been enquiries from guests if she could have similar biking every week end. The Marcel, a boutique hotel in Manhattan’s historic Gramercy Park, offers power naps for the rich and famous.

The Malibu Beach Inn has a $270 day rate for rooms that normally cost $385. At the Hotel Plaza Athenee on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, suites can run $6,600 a night. Located close to Barneys, Bergdorf Goodman and Bloomingdale’s, day rates range from $250-$450 based on occupancy and time of year. At the Ritz Carlton For $250, you can book an oceanfront cabana to sunbathe, relax and take advantage of all spa amenities. A free market always finds the perfect balance between demand and supply.
