Hermès Collaborates with Leica to Create a $50,000 Camera

Hermès collaborates regularly with different brands to give its touch to their products. They have created a large and loyal customer base who pick up these specially designed products at fancy prices. Hermès has already collaborated with Leica twice and is now doing it for the third time. The result is a special edition camera that is being released in two sets. The first set which is relatively inexpensive will have a production run of 300 pieces whereas the expensive set will have only 100 pieces available. The cameras have been wrapped in Hermès’ ‘Veau Swift’ calfskin in ocre. The body of the camera is finished in silver chrome and anodized silver.

Leica M9-P Edition Hermès

The cameras are from the line of premium M system and an improvement over their Leica MP and M7. It is called the Leica M9-P ‘Edition Hermès’. The limited edition has a unique design and finishing and comes with various extras that makes it very special. Hermès brings its premium craftsmanship to the special edition camera as the hand crafted fine leather is individually applied by hand. Their precision and attention to detail helps make the camera a masterpiece.

The Premium Leather Work by Hermès

The leather work by Hermès really makes the camera extraordinary. The calfskin in ocre gives the camera an unusual color concept. The shoulder strap for the camera is also made out of the same leather and gives it a very luxurious feel. Automotive designer Walter de’Silva was part of the design team and helped restyle the body of the camera  including the top and base plates, the shutter speed dial, the multifunction wheel and the shutter release. Some of the regular features in the Leica cameras like the frame selector lever, the accessory shoe and the Leica script on the upper face of the top plate have been removed to make it a unique edition.

Two Sets Limited to Editions of 300 and 100

The set being released in 300 numbers comes with a silver anodized Leica Summilux-M 50 mm f/1.4 ASPH. lens. The silver chrome of the camera and the anodized silver of the lense is done in such a way that the difference is indistinguishable. The de-luxe edition of Leica M9-P Série Limitée Jean-Louis Dumas is limited to 100 pieces. This set comes with three lenses namely Leica Summicron-M 28 mm f/2 ASPH., a Leica Noctilux-M 50 mm f/0.95 ASPH. and a Leica APO-Summicron-M 90 mm f/2 ASPH. The set comes in a hand-crafted Hermès camera bag that is available exclusively as part of this second set. The first set has been priced at $25,000 and the more exclusive one is priced at $50,000.
