Fashion for a cause: Gucci’s Sukey bag sales to go to UNICEF

Fashion for a cause sounds a bit hackneyed but it befits the efforts of Gucci, which has collaborated with UNICEF over the years to support various noble causes. It has entered the sixth year of its endeavor, which has garnered $7 million for several UNICEF projects. To commemorate this fruitful relationship, Gucci has offered a limited edition Sukey bag to benefit the cause.

25 percent of the revenue earned from the sale of these bags will be donated to UNICEF’s Schools for Africa campaign, which strives to improve schools in disadvantaged regions of Africa “to create those conditions that will attract children to school, keep them there and provide them with a safe and protective environment where they can learn and play.”

Apparently, this bag has an old link to philanthropy. Back in 2008, Gucci’s Creative Director Frida Giannini had co-chaired a fundraising event in support of UNICEF. In this event, which raised $2.7 million for Schools for Africa, one of the prizes offered was an opportunity to name a Gucci bag, and the winner had chosen the “Sukey”.

The $1,295.00 Sukey is one of Gucci’s best-selling handbags. All the Sukey bags in the grey shade sold until February 28, 2011 will be an investment in the future of Africa. So, if you have the desire to contribute to this cause, and oh yes, the money for it, then do buy this bag.
