Fans Grab Michael Jackson Memorabilia in Auction on His Death Anniversary

Julien’s Auctions had organised a 1,600 lot auction on the first anniversary of Michael Jackson’s death at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas. A few months after Michael Jackson’s death, one of his gloves had sold for a little over $70,000. This time round one of the crystal-encrusted gloves that Jackson wore during the 1984 “Victory Tour sold for $160,000.Wanda Kelly of Los Angeles, a dedicated fan, came up with the winning bid of $160,000. The Las Vegas Sun reports that she bought several other items including many Jackson gold records.

The total amount raised through the auction crossed the $1 million mark easily. Apart from Jackson memorabilia there were other items up for auction which belonged to Anna Nicole Smith, Cher, Brad Pitt, Ronald Regan and Frank Sinatra. Since it was the first death anniversary of Michael Jackson, the articles associated with him generally went for much higher prices than the estimates made by the auctioneers. Pieces of his clothing, an MTV music video award, handwritten lyrics and many more items sold above estimates.

A signed fedora sold for $45,000 and the T-shirt he wore in his Beat It video was grabbed for an enthusiastic bidder for $36,000. A corduroy shirt was sold for $23,000 and the Jacket he wore during his wedding to Debbie Rowe  went up to a high of $60,000.

This auction was a part of a three day auction which also witnessed other high priced items like Madonna’s stage bras which went for $10,000, Tupac Shakur’s Hummer which went for $26,000 and Prince’s handwritten “Purple Rain “ lyrics which saw the bidding go up to $55,000.
