People traveling from cold climates for a Caribbean holiday find it easy to fall in love with the Caribbean and its climate. It always feels right, warm with a cool breeze. On the island of Antigua the south side enjoys the best of both worlds. A Caribbean pioneer called Howard Hulford fell in love with the place and in 1962 decided to open a hotel on the corner of the island. He knew the region well as he worked there as a private pilot. What he created is called the Curtain Bluff which receives ceaseless breeze from the Atlantic side and drowsy heat from the other side.
Howard is no more but his widow Chelle is working hard to keep his vision alive. She was a young girl from California when she fell in love with Howard and has contributed a lot in making Curtain Bluff what it is today. The resort has grown to become a Caribbean institution and majority of guests return, year after year. The hotel is more like a luxurious home away from home. The best part is that practically everything is included in the price of the room.
If you want to snorkel on the reef, have a martini at the bar, play squash or tennis or use the spa, you just have to turn up and use the amenities at no extra charge. In fact guests do tend to drink a lot when staying at Curtain Bluff. Chelle runs the hotel super efficiently. She remembers her husband with affection. She has, in fact, built a monument to Howard in the beautiful gardens that tumble around the hotel.
