Radio legend Casey Kasem, famous for hosting ‘America Top 40’ from 1970 to 2004 and voicing the character of Shaggy in Scooby Doo, has put up his LA mansion for $42 million. Bought in 1989 for $1.72 million, this Greek revival estate has seen continuous renovations done Casey and his wife Jean. Mrs. Kasem was so frequent with the renovations that her husband gave her the nickname ‘Lady Winchester’, after San Jose’s famous Winchester House, which underwent endless renovations.
Casey bought the house for his wife as she was expecting. The couple used to live at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel and Casey didn’t want to leave. But after Jean insisted, they moved as “You can’t raise a child in a hotel.” But now that their 21 year old daughter, Liberty is moving out, they are looking to move to a smaller abode or move near the beach. The estate spread over 12,000 square feet includes a 7 bedroom house, a tennis court and a unique heart shape swimming pool. The house also has 11.5 bathrooms, a separate guesthouse, bar, hair salon and a huge library, which contains an impressive collection of books from around the globe. It also happens to be the couple’s favourite part of the house.
The house is interspersed with beautiful European style furniture and exquisite antique pieces. The gardens are perfectly manicured and have strawberry and grape trees in the backyard and citrus trees parallel to the boundary walls. There are two imposing lion statues at the entrance and a fountain that was built around a piece of the Brooklyn Bridge. The asking price includes all the interior decorations. The total area of the property is 2.4-acre. The mansion was designed by James Dolena. The couple has made the most of the huge property and hosted innumerable parties including a 5000 guest benefit hosted right after they bought the estate. Here is a look at Larry Ellison’s Estate in Lake Tahoe, which is also up for sale.
