Carmen Busquets, the daughter of a Spanish industrialist from Venezuela is best known as the luxury goods investor who made a profit of about £100 million from the sale of fashion website Net-a-Porter last year. She is investing some of that money to buy a 5.1% stake in Garmz.com and is relaunching the business under the Lookk name by the end of the month. She will also be on the board of directors of the new look company which is in the social networking clothes design business.
Eden Ventures are the lead investor in the project. Xavier Niel’s Kima Ventures, Dave McClure and angel investor Sherry Coutu are also backing the project. Lookk aims to connect designers directly with customers. Ms Busquets is betting on it as she feels that Lookk will be doing it in an authentic and refreshing way. Lookk already has 17 staff spread in places like London, Vienna and Bulgaria. Ms Busquets identifies with the project as it reminds her of the creative ways of making money she found as a young girl in Venezuela.
The team at Lookk gives her the confidence that a community of creative entrepreneurs can be created online. Ms Busquets has always believed in the new economy and new ideas. She doesn’t keep her money in the bank but is always willing to risk it on new ideas and new companies. She has recently increased her stake in online jeweler Astley Clarke. She is an investor in Go Try It On, a New York-based digital forum enabling people to share their look online. She is the founder of lifestyle e-commerce site Couture Lab and has invested in jewelry marketplace Caratime and technology venture fund Parkview.
