Carlton Hobbs Gallery to Host Rare Regency Antique Sale

The Carlton Hobbs gallery in New York is all set to launch Inspired by Antiquity: Classical Influences on 18th and 19th Century Furniture and Works of Art on January 20th this year. Antiques have always drawn interest of art devotees and this exhibition is sure to enthrall all patrons.

The exhibition would portray the works of the famous interior designer of the 18th century, Thomas Hope which would be showcased on February 14. The Carlton Hobbs gallery in association with premier academics would unearth elemental design references suggested in the 40 marvelous pieces in the exhibition.

The exhibits include a pair of well-designed light resembling a winged griffin, a pair of exquisitely carved ivory candlesticks in the form of canopic jars. The elegant lights date back to 1802 and is assumed to have belonged to the famous designer Thomas Hope himself. The candlesticks are 18 inches tall and have originated from the ivory craft in Murshidabad, India. It does sound fascinating to a person like me who has little or rather no interest in any of these old world stuffs, an art lover would certainly fall for it. So make sure you are there.
