Breakfast Ham Breaks All Records With A Total Of $1.6 Million In Auction Sale

At the 47th Annual Kentucky Country Ham Auction, the event witnessed one of its biggest auction sales, as a breakfast ham, created by Broadbent B&B Foods of Kuttawa, Kentucky, fetched a whopping $1.6 million, making it the state fair’s grand champion ham. This all new record set by the auctioned ham has raised the average price of a country ham to $462,048 since the last decade. The prize winning ham was claimed by two bidders, Bernard Trager, Chairman of Republic Bank and Trust, and Dr. Mark Lynn & Associates, owner of Dr. Bizer’s Vision World, who placed a bid of $800,000 each for the ham that weighs 16.05-pound.

One of the highlights of this incredible auction is the noble idea that lies at the heart of the two bidders, as the money raised from the event is said to be donated to the charity of the winning bidder’s choice. Dr. Mark Lynn & Associates have planned to donate the proceeds to the University of Louisville, Visually Impaired Preschool Services and Eastern Area Community Ministries, while Republic Bank and Trust has stated its intentions of donating the proceeds to the local healthcare and education system.

According to Susie Tanner (Commodity Director, Kentucky Farm Bureau),

“It’s always a good day when you have a hand in raising $1.6 million for charity over breakfast. We’re proud of the history of this event and today’s winning bid adds to that legacy.”
