Like we have mentioned earlier, gadgets are being coated with gold, silver or platinum and sold as luxury products, regardless of whether they actually are luxury products. It is very common to see people assuming that anything that is coated with gold is luxurious, which unfortunately is not true at all!
The latest of such gadgets is the boring Nokia N97 which has been dabbed with 18 carat gold and comes with apps like ELLE 360Fashion for the style conscious. A simple app and a gold coat would turn a geeky device luxurious? I would say, not at all and I remember reading about the amazing Prada Cellphone which was so luxurious, that it really stood up for the meaning of the term “luxury”.
If Nokia has to call one of its products “luxurious”, they better get one of the fashion houses in Dusseldorf, Milan or Paris to design a cellphone and not just coat a slab of device with gaudy gold. Some of the features of the N97 include 3.2 inch touchscreen display with 360 x 640 pixels, full QWERTY keyboard, Wi-Fi, HSPA, GPS, Nokia Maps, 3.5mm headset jack, 8GB of internal memory and many others. It costs $850.
