Patrick Mavros is known for his luxury silver sculptures, home ware and interior pieces. He has designed a collection of new pieces that have been inspired by his country of birth and Africa. The Zimbabwe born jeweler and silversmith owns a flagship store on Fulham Road in London. His exotic creations as sterling silver ‘crocodile’ belt buckles, sterling silver ‘elephant hair’ bangles, and whimsical ‘elephant and tortoise’ cigar ashtrays have been appreciated the world over. The pieces in his new collection take inspiration from the landscape, flora and fauna of Africa.
The collection has been travelling in the UK and beyond as an exhibition titled African Luxury House. It has been appreciated equally in royal palaces as well as remote African ranch homesteads. Alexander Mavros, eldest son of Patrick points out that the luxury market has bypassed the entire African continent. The continent has so much mystique and intrigue and romance and yet it has nothing to offer to the world of luxury. And this is part of Mavros’ endeavor to create the definitive African luxury brand. Americas, Europe and now increasingly Asia have a luxury brand that represents the pinnacle of the luxury industry. Africa also must have something of its own.
Apart from what Patrick and his team create for his store, he has taken up numerous private commissions. He counts big names amongst his admirers and customers including The King of Spain, Denzel Washington, J.K.Rowling and Barack Obama. Destination Luxury deserves a big thank you for unearthing and highlighting a gem like Patrick for the world to admire. It will go a long way in helping Africa find the place it deserves in the field of luxury.
