Lo And Behold! I present to you Australia’s most expensive table wine. It a Barossa Valley shiraz that was recently unveiled by Torbreck. And what is the price that has given it the priciest tag? Well a bottle of this wine will cost you around $700 and that comes to around $87.50 a glass. Christened “2005 The Lairdâ€, this wine is more expensive than the current top slot holder, Penfolds Grange, which is priced at $600 a bottle.
David Powell, the Torbreck chief wine maker said, “I’d always wanted to create a wine like this. And then at the same time this wonderful fruit became available from Malcolm Seppelts’ vineyard and I was offered some very special French oak barrels – everything just came together.†This wine was released two months ago and has sold two-fourths of its new stock till date. As wine gets better with age, the prices also get better for the seller atleast. So David Powell is hoping that in the next ten years, this wine will cross the $1000 threshold.
Three 27L bottles in this new collection, which are made from grapes grown at the Seppelts Barossa vineyard, have a mindblowing price tag of $30,000 each. If you are interested, The Laird will be available only at Torbreck’s Nuriootpa cellar door.
